At the dawning of the twentieth century, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, known as the Boulé, was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 15, 1904, making it the oldest Black Greek-lettered organization in the United States. In sync with Philadelphia’s precedence as the “City of Brotherly Love” and as the “Cradle of Liberty,” physician Henry McKee Minton and a small group of his colleagues set apart Sigma Pi Phi to cultivate professional and social support within the city’s Black communities.
